Madeira Beach

We journeyed to Florida to escape the dreary weather here in Georgia and what do you know- it was freezing down there and we ended up coming back a day early. Yes, I read the forecast, but we had booked the flight a month earlier and I somehow tried to convince myself that it would be warm, it wasn't. All was not lost though-it's nice and sunny today in Mableton and there's nothing like a vacation to remind you of how much you love home!

A little side note on Madeira Beach: it's near St Petersburg and it's mainly retiree's that go there but that's what I like about it. No screaming kids, no teenagers getting drunk and trying to hook up, just old people floating in the pool and taking long walks on the beach. It's a great place to go and just kick back and relax. There aren't too many of those gimmicky restaurants and cheesy putt putt places, if you want to go out it's fishing and golf and sunset cruises, just my style.

Mushroom Village

What a neat little mushroom village I found growing in a rotten cut log in the woods! The log is hollow inside and all these tiny mushrooms are living inside. Check it out!

It's been raining so there are some other fun guys around- these look like they are glowing:

And these guys are just neat:

 I like lichen, do you???

Swing Kids

When I was a kid the swings were my favorite part of the playground (besides the wobbly bridge) and I may be dating myself here but it seems to me that playgrounds aren't nearly as fun as they used to be. They are too safe! A little danger is what made them so fun- super high structures, really long swings that went very high, see-saws that someone could jump off of and send you plummeting to the ground, long slides with no guardrails- those were fun! Luckily, there are still a few off those good old fashioned dangerous metal structures around, they can usually be found in older neighborhoods and historic districts, like the 17th Street Park in the Inman Park neighborhood in Atlanta where I took these pictures. Let the fun begin!
